BIRGUNJ: Police mounted baton charge on the families of Birgunj jail inmates who staged a sit-in outside the prison and shouted slogans. The prisoners’ kin, carrying banners and placards, were demanding amnesty for all prisoners in the jail. — HNS

Ex-official abducted

RAJBIRAJ: Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-G cadres abducted a former VDC chairman on Saturday. Surya Prasad Shah of Deuri VDC-7 was abducted from his home, said his son Birendra Kumar Shah. Shah said JTMM-G cadres seized six bighas of land in Ward No 8. The JTMM-G has not claimed the responsibility. — HNS

Ban on firecrackers

RUPANDEHI: The Rupandehi district administration has imposed a ban on explosive materials and firecrackers during Tihar. Chief District Officer Dhruv Raj Wagle told this daily on Sunday that the district security committee at a meeting decided to punish importers of explosive materials and firecrackers. — HNS

ADB team departs

KATHMANDU: A four-member delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) left Kathmandu on Sunday after visiting the site of the Melamchi Water Supply Project (MWSP) and preparing a report on the project. The team had arrived here on October 30. — HNS

17-yr-old abducted

RAUTAHAT: Four unidentified persons kidnapped Chandan Sah, 17, of Bishrampur VDC-6 in Rautahat while he was heading to the Katariya bazaar on Sunday evening, the Garuda area police office said. — HNS
