Accident kills three
PALPA: Three persons were killed and and three were injured when a truck Na 2 Kha 6400 met with an accident at Urleni, Dubichaur Village Development Committee (VDC)-4 of Gulmi district yesterday. Truck driver Mohan Kaucha of Khanigaun VDC-4, Kamal Basnet, 50, of Simichaur VDC-2, Gulmi, and an unidentified woman died in the accident, said district police office, Gulmi. The injured are Krishna Kunwar of Simichaur VDC-6, Chaturbhuj B.K. of Badagaun-6, Gulmi and Anita Thapa of Tityang-8, Baglung. — HNS
Diarrhoea kills two
RAJBIRAJ: Two persons died of diarrhoea in Saptari and Bara districts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Diarrhoea killed 24-year-old Asha Devi Khanga, of Sakarapura VDC-6, Saptari, on Tuesday. At least 24 people of Sakarapura VDC, who have been suffering from diarrhoea, have been undergoing treatment at the Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital and local sub-health posts, stated a local health post. A three-year-old daughter of Ganesh Raya Yadav, Ranjukumari, of Hariharpur-7 in Bara district, died of diarrhoea on Wednesday, Rameshor Meheta, a journalist, said. Diarrhoea has been raging in southern parts of the district for four days. Ten-year-old son of Jogindra Ram and nine-year-old-son of Bhojal Miya, of Pakadiya VDC-3, Bara, died of diarrhoea on Monday, said a local, Nawalkishor Baitha. — HNS
Police office gheraoed
ITAHARI: Over 400 supporters of Balsanta Shree Shree 1008 Mohansharan of Chataradham gheraoed the Sunsari district police office (DPO) on Thursday demanding severe punishment to the accused who had threatened to take his life. Balsanta was threatened by his disciples accusing him of attracting women towards him and of corruption, it is said. The gherao was lifted after police promised to arrest and punish the accused disciples, the office said. — HNS
Chinese envoy’s call
BHAIRAHAWA: Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Zheng Xiangling, on Thursday said Nepal’s political matter is an internal affair and Nepalis themselves should solve it. Speaking at a three-day Chinese photo exhibition programme “New Beijing, New Olympic” organised by Nepal-China Friendship Society, Lumbini, Ziangling said China is Nepal’s reliable neighbour. China believes that Nepal, being a sovereign country, has the right to deal with all its problems on its own, the ambassador added, highlighting the age-old relationships between the two countries. — HNS
Gang attacks scribe
KATHMANDU: Ramraj Pokharel, the president of the Nepal Press Union and the Rupandehi correspondent of the Channel Nepal, was attacked by a local group on October 30 at Milanchowk in Butwal. According to a press statement issued by the Fedeation of Nepalese Journalists on Thursday, Pokharel was attacked in front of his office while he was getting ready to return home form his office. Expressing serious concerns about the rising number of attacks, threats and intimidations against journalists, the FNJ has demanded the police administration to take immediate action against the guilty. — HNS
Extortion continues
RAMECHHAP: The Maoists’ extortion drive that began in full swing before Dashain is yet to stop. Maoist cadres have set up checkpoints on the Araniko Highway, forcing vehicles to stop. They have put up a road barrier in district headquarters Manthali and are extorting openly. The road barrier that they had put up before Dashain is still standing and Maoist cadres collect Rs 50 and upward from every vehicle leaving the district. — HNS
