NAWALPARASI: Demanding compensation for the family of a child, who was killed in an accident here three days ago, locals of Rajahar staged chakkajam on the Mahendra Highway on Saturday. Stone-pelting kills one

ITAHARI: A tempo passenger, 16-year-old Nischal Rai, of Dharan, died when a group of 10 persons hurled stones at him in Sunsari, Itahari, on Friday night, the police said. The tempo was heading to Halagadachock of Sunsari. A search to nab the assailants is on, the police said. — HNS

Rapist punished

NAWALPARASI: Cadres of the Young Communist League and locals on Saturday blackened the face of Chandra Kant Bhusal, 19, of Shankhdev village in Dhauwadi VDC of Nawalparasi district for raping a seven-year-old girl. The cadres garlanded him with shoes and frog-marched him around the Kawasoti bazaar. Bhusal raped the child on Friday. She was taken to hospital in an unconscious state and is still undergoing treatment, locals said. — HNS

Ex-VDC chief tortured

Nuwakot: Maoists allegedly tortured former chairman of Duipipal VDC Indra Bahadur Lama in Nuwakot district on Friday and also kept him captive all day long. The Maoists barged into Lama’s house, trussed him up and tortured him in the presence of district-level Maoist leaders. Lama’s fellow villagers, however, prevented the Maoists from carrying him off. Talking to this daily, Lama said he was in his house on Friday morning when a group of Maoists burst in, tied his hands and feet and began torturing him. Lama thanked his villagers for preventing him from being abducted and said Maoist leader Gokarna Neupane and Young Communist League leader Arjun Neupane had led the team.— HNS

Diarrhoea claims 3

Rajbiraj: One Dulidevi Sada, 41, wife of Kripa Sada, a resident of Trikaul VDC-6 in Saptari district died of diarrhoea on Friday night while undergoing treatment at a local sub-health post, Birendra Kumar Lagarwar, a technical assistant of the VDC, said on Saturday. A report from Nuwakot said two members of a family in Bhujwaha VDC of Nuwakot district’s southern part died of dysentery on Friday. Secretary of the Bjujwaha VDC Paras Nath Barma said that Rasula Dafali, 65, and Hafizun Dafali, 35, of ward 2 in the VDC succumbed to dysentery. The two were mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Barma said over 12 persons in the VDC are afflicted with dysentery, diarrhoea and other stomach ailments for a week. — HNS
