KATHMANDU: A group of journalists, including president of the Reporters’ Club Nepal, Rishi Dhamala, will go to Bara on Thursday to find out facts about the abduction of journalist Birendra Shah. The group will hold interactions with local security personnel and the Maoists before compiling a report, Dhamala said on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a report from Birgunj said that a team of the National Human Rights Commission, which arrived in Birgunj to probe into the abduction of Shah, started its work from Wednesday. The team met Shah’s family, security personnel, witnesses, Maoist leaders and media persons. — HNS / RSS

VDC secy abducted

SIRAHA: The whereabouts of secretary at Siraha Padariya VDC Amit Lal Chaudhary, who was abducted by an unidentified gang on Sunday, is still unknown. Chaudhary was abducted when he was returning from Ratriya Banijya Bank to Lahan after withdrawing Rs 1,50,000 for payment as allowances to senior citizens, his son Ashok Chaudhary said. Although he could not say who abducted his father and why, the abductors have demanded Rs one million as ransom for his release, Ashok further said. — HNS

One killed, seven hurt

SARLAHI: One person died and seven others were injured when a passenger bus heading from Biratnagar to Kathmandu hit them in a jungle in Sarlahi district’s Gaurishanker VDC-9 on Tuesday. According to the Sarlahi district police office Ganesh KC, Sunil Lama, 18, of Ghurkauli VDC-8 died on the spot when the passenger bus hit him. — HNS

9 riot suspects held

KAPILVASTU: The Kapilvastu district police office on Wednesday arrested nine more persons on the charge of being involved in the Kapilvastu mayhem. DSP Kuber Kathayat said, Dip Chandra Yadav alias Kallu of Khururiya-4, Munna Pasi of Ganeshpur VDC-6, Bob Khan of Krishnanagar VDC-2, Sanjaya Musalman alias Sangla, Bhulhi Kurmi, Ram Kishor Yadav, Kanaiya Harijan of Patthardeiya VDC-1, Babu Miya Musalman Dhuniya and Pralhad Khatik of Warkalpur-8 were held on the charge of rioting. Among them, Khatik was charged with a rape case, while the others were accused of arson and robbery. — HNS

Envoy meets Speaker

KATHMANDU: Danish envoy Finn Thilsted met Speaker Subas Nembang at the latter’s office on Wednesday. The duo discussed peace process, CA polls and other contemporary issues, the Parliament Secretariat said. Thilsted said Danish foreign minister will visit Nepal. — RSS
