One abducted

RAJBIRAJ: A gang of armed persons abducted a civilian, Gaharai Chaudhari, from his home in Haripur-4 of Saptari on Thursday night. No one has owned up the abduction. Family of the abductee has urged the civil society, human right organisations and journalists to facilitate the release of Chaudhari. — HNS

Jail reconstruction

ILAM: Reconstruction of the Ilam jail, destroyed in a Maoist attack last year, has begun. The reconstruction got underway after the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works released Rs 32,69,000, chief of the jail Dilliram Pokhrel said. A total of Rs 2.66 crore will be needed for the reconstruction of physical infrastructure in the jail, he said. “We will construct a security beat in the first phase,” Pokhrel said. — RSS

Man falls to death

DHANKUTA: A 46-year-old man Durga Bahadur Rai died on Friday after falling from a cliff at Chirbire in Dhankuta Municipality ward no 7. Rai, who hails from Gairigaun of the municipality, died when he was returning home after meeting one of his relatives. The Dhankuta district police office said Rai died on the spot after falling 100 metres down the cliff. — HNS

Peace accord violation

KASKI: The Maoists are in the forefront of violating the peace accord after signing it with the government, a report prepared by the Population Watch and INHURED International said. The organisation, formed to monitor violations of the peace accord, prepared the report after monitoring cases in 16 districts of the Western Development Region. The monitoring of one-month period showed 12 incidents of beating by the Maoists and one by the Nepal Army. INHURED International Director Srikrishna Subedi said such incidents are rising as the government couldn’t take action against the Rayamajhi report-indicted. — RSS

Maoists’ roundtable

DIPAYAL: Seti-Mahakali Comprehensive Round Table Conference and Republic Festival being organised by CPN-Maoist-affiliated Seti-Mahakali Rastriya Mukti Morcha concluded on Friday after forming a revolutionary people’s council. The conference has constituted a 37-member united revolutionary people’s council under the chairmanship of CPN-Maoist central member and MP Lekh Raj Bhatta. Seti-Mahakali Rastriya Mukti vice-president Morcha Khaga Raj Bhatta is the secretary of the council. CPN-Maoist central secretariat member Biplav said Dan Bahadur Raute has been nominated to represent his endangered community. — HNS

Snakebite kills toddler

LAHAN: Dhirendra Kumar Yadav, 4-year-old son of Ram Kumar Yadav in Muksar village development committee of Siraha district, died of snakebite on Thursday. Yadav died while undergoing treatment at the Jayakali Snakebite Treatment Centre in Ranasingh Dal Company of Choharba, the family source said. It is said the victims of snakebite is on rise in the district of late. — RSS
