No entry for MJF prez

MAHOTTARI: Local cadres of the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) have decided to prevent MJF president Upendra Yadav from entering Mahottari district. A meeting held at the Mahottari district development committee under the chairmanship of Naresh Tiwari made the decision to this effect. The meeting also formed a 151-member Janaandolan Mobilisation committee headed by Abhiram Sharma and 51-member Women’s Janaandolan Mobilisation Committee headed by Saraswoti Jha to press for the fulfilment of demands for the introduction of a proportionate election system and the formation of an autonomous Madhes. — HNS

Matrika’s case goes

CHAUTARA: A case of state treason, filed against Maoist leader Matrika Prasad Yadav, has been withdrawn. The case had been pending for long. A bench of justice Mahesh Prasad Pudasaini of the Sindhupalchowk district court decided to withdraw the case. The government had filed the case against Yadav after an attack on a police post in Thokarpa. — RSS

YCL’s warning

ITAHARI: The Kochila State Committee of the Maoist affiliated Young Communist League has organised a programme here on Wednesday to warn that they would constitute a parallel government against the seven parties. The first meeting of the Kochila State Committee that began here yesterday warned of constituting the parallel government after electing its new leadership. Bandh hits life

DAMAK: The indefinite bandh called by the Federal Limbuwan State Council to protest arrest of its cadres shut Jhapa on Wednesday as shops, bazaar and transportation came to a complete halt. Bandh organisers and police clashed briefly in Jhapa’s Dharampur and Kerakha areas, but nobody was hurt, the Damak area police office said. Meanwhile, Jhapa CDO Jaya Mukunda Khanal said probe against the 64 persons detained on Monday and Tuesday has begun. — HNS

‘Poll process to go on’

LEKHNATH: Election commissioner Nilkantha Upreti told reporters here that the election process will not be stalled even if the Maoists walk out of the government. Elections will be successful only when all voters and parties take part in them, he said. Another commissioner Usha Nepal called on all to abide by the Election Commission’s code of conduct. Inaugurating the regional workshop on Election Management and Implementation on Wednesday, she urged all concerned to help make the election impartial. — RSS

CA poll boycott call

PHIDIM: The agitating Federal Limbuwan State Council on Wednesday announced to boycott the Constituent Assembly polls. After the meeting of the council in Phidim bazaar, a release issued by president Dipendra Kurumwang said the council has decided to boycott the CA polls after the government failed to make the country a federal state with fully ethnic autonomous and right to self-determination. The meeting also accused the government for trying to hold the CA polls in the manner the municipal poll was held by king Gyanendra two years ago. — HNS

POKHARA: The Kaski chapter of Revolutionary Journalists’ Association

handed over a memorandum to Kaski chief district officer placing various demands on Wednesday. A team led by president of the Revolutionary Journalists’ Association Pokhara chapter, Rudra Prasad Bhatta, and central member Raju Chhetri met chief district officer Bhola Prasad Siwakoti and gave a ten-day ultimatum for meeting their demands. — HNS

Speaker’s reply to SC

KATHMANDU: Speaker of the Parliament, Subas Chandra Nembang, on Wednesday forwarded a written reply to the Supreme Court through the Office of the Attorney General on a writ petition against prohibition to contest in the CA polls registered in the SC by ministers of the royal regime. The writ petition registered against the PM, Speaker and Election Commission and Supreme Court had issued show cause notices in this regard. Former Ministers, including Kamal Thapa, Keshar Bahadur Bista and Govenda Choudhari, had registered the petition in the SC. — RSS

NA soldier arrested

SIRAHA: Jamadar of the Nepal Army deployed in eastern division, Satya Dev Yadav, on Wednesday abducted one Manik Lal Yadav of Siraha’s Kalyanpur Jajdi – 9 demanding compensation to one of his relatives who was electrocuted a month ago. Since the death of his relative, Satya was demanding compensation for the bereaved family and abducted Manik, said SP at Siraha district police office, Mingmar Lama. Meanwhile, the Mirchaiya area police office has arrested Satya. Two other accomplices Jogendra Yadav and Lalit Yadav have absconded. — HNS

Snakebite kills girl

SIRAHA: Sanju Kumar Paswan, 18, of Padariya Bhotiya Tole died at Lahan Hospital in Siraha district on Wednesday while undergoing treatment for the snakebite. She was bitten by a poisonous snake two days ago in her house. According to a physician at the hospital Ram Chandra Yadav, she died after the poison spread in her body. — HNS
