Border alert

NEW DELHI: The Home Ministry of India has directed to adopt high security alert in five states bordering Nepal. India adopted such an alert in the context of the “political development in Nepal”, a high level official in the Indian home ministry said. It has been directed to adopt high security in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Sikkim. The ministry has directed to implement the order through Sastra Sima Bal (SSB) deployed on the Indo-Nepal border. High security was adopted and checking was tightened on the border from Tuesday, the official said. — HNS

19 hurt in mishaps

DHADING: Nineteen passengers were hurt in separate mishaps in different places in Dhading district on Tuesday morning. According to Gajuri area police office, 18 persons were wounded when a passenger bus heading from Sindhuli for Kathmandu, overturned near Dhading’s Malekhu on Prithvi Highway. The bus was carrying 35 passengers. Also, Ratan Lama was injured when he was hit by a tipper which was leaving for Kathmandu from Baireni. — HNS

41 arrested

Damak: Police on Tuesday arrested 41 students of Sanghiya Limbuwan Rajyaparisad (SLR) affiliated Sanghiya Students’ Union in the course of agitation from different places of Jhapa. Altogether 18 students were arrested from Birtamod and 23 from Kerkha, Superintendent of Police Rajendra Shrestha said. Agitators and police briefly clashed at Kerkha and police fired eight rounds of tear gas to control the mob, Shrestha said. — HNS
