Farmers’ complaint
NAWALPARASI: Local farmers of the Gandak region at Nawalparasi have been deprived of compensation of their 111 bighas of land, which was acquired by the Nepal Gandak West Canal Irrigation System about two and a half decades ago. The irrigation system had acquired thousands of bighas of land from the farmers between 2040 to 2046 BS. Although
seven million rupees was distributed so far, the distribution has stopped now. Chief of the Irrigation Division Office Semari said Rs 2,200,000 is the remaining sum to be distributed to the farmers. — RSS
One killed in mishap
INARUWA: One person died on Friday in a road accident at Pakali of Sunsari district. Jaga Narayan Chaudhari, 35, of Sundarpur-8 in Morang district died when a motorbike en route to west from east knocked him at Pakali road section along the East-West Highway on Friday afternoon. He died on the way to the BP Koirala Health Science Institute at Dharan for the treatment, said Sunsari District Police Office. — RSS
Couple kidnapped
RAJBIRAJ: The cadres of Goit-led Janatantrik Mukti Morcha (JTMM) on Friday abducted a couple. They abducted Kamala Shrestha and her husband of Taxar in Bhojpur from
Diman Tole. The Goit-led Janatantrik Mukti Morcha cadres also beat up Lila Bahadur severely, the locals said. Bharat Shakti of the group admitted taking control of the couple for investigation, but it is learnt that they have demanded Rs 200,000 as ransom for their release. Meanwhile, an unidentified armed group has abducted Headmaster of the Jandaul Secondary School, Kapileswor Chaudhari, on Friday. He was abducted while he was on his way to the school. However, no one have taken responsibility for it. — RSS

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Sahana Pradhan on Saturday visited various places of cultural and archeological importance in Cairo of Egypt. The minister also visited the Ali Palace, the Coptic Museum and Hanging Church, the Egyptian Museum and the Pyramids, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. — RSS
Abductee freed
SIRAHA: Sujit Khatiwada, an employee of Swawalamban Vikas Bank who was abducted five days ago by cadres of the Janatantatrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Jwala Singh), was released on Saturday. The JTMM-J men had abducted him from the fishery department office in Siswan VDC.— HNS
Lightning kills one
BIRATNAGAR: Lightning killed one person and injured three in two different places in Morang on Saturday. Alkadin Majhi, 55, of Katahari-3 was killed when lightning struck her at noon. Meanwhile, Suman Rishidev, Suman Sarbariya and another person of Budhnagar-6 in Morang were injured when lightning struck them. They are undergoing treatment at the Koshi Zonal Hospital. — HNS
Bandh hits Siraha
SIRAHA: The one-day bandh called by the Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha (TKS) to protest increasing incidents of loot, murder, violence and abduction affected normal life in the district. Trading establishments, industries and shops remained closed while traffic also came to a halt. The Lahan area police office said that a few vehicles plied in the area under police escort. — HNS
