UNMIN flays Maoists

ITAHARI: Pointing that the Maoists have not yet handed over a vehicle of the District Agriculture Office, which they had seized from Seuti of Sunsari district, the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) said that the Maoists have not mend their ways. The UNMIN said at a meeting of the eight parties and local administration at Inaruwa in Sunsari on Wednesday that the seizure of a government vehicle is a criminal activity. — HNS

Jeep torched

SARLAHI: Three persons identifying themselves as members of the Gorkha Lion Mukti Morcha Samaj torched a jeep belonging to the Kantipur Publications at the Banke jungle area in Sarlahi on Wednesday. The jeep was heading to Biratnagar after delivering newspapers at Chandranigahpur in Rautahat. The three, identifying themselves as members of the Samaj, sprayed petrol on the jeep in the area lying on the East-West Highway and torched it, driver of the jeep Amar Bahadur Magar said. — HNS

OPD services resume

POKHARA: OPD services at the paediatrics department of western regional hospital resumed on Tuesday. Services were halted on Sunday and Monday after head of the department Binod Tulachan and Dr Srikrishna Shrestha remained absent. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Former Director General of Radio Nepal, Krishna Bahadur Khatri, 78, passed away on Wednesday. Khatri, who joined Radio Nepal in 2009 BS, was the Director General from 2029 BS to 2034 BS. — RSS

One held for murder

KATHMANDU: A police team from the Metropolitan Police Section at Gaushala on Tuesday arrested one Balaram Tamang of Okhaldhunga district on the charge of murder at Siphal on June 24, police said. Tamang was arrested for murdering Jibram Shrestha from Bhatkekopul, the police added. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Poudel on Wednesday administered the oath of office to the newly appointed permanent justices of the SC, Damodar Prasad Sharma, Ramkumar Prasad Shaha, Kalyan Shrestha and Gauri Dhakal. — RSS

Memo submitted

KATHMANDU: The Local Body Employees’ Association of Nepal on Tuesday submitted a memorandum of 15-point demands to the Minister for Local Development, Dev Prasad Gurung. The association said that the memorandum demands that some 18,000 local bodies’ employees be made permanent, employees working for more than ten years be promoted one-level, and arrangement be made for life insurance. — RSS

Teenager ‘kills’ girl

ILAM: A 15-year-old boy of Pyang-5 murdered a 12-year-old girl from his locality on Tuesday. Nima Sherpa severed both the hands of Premlamu Sherpa with a khukuri and hit her with the weapon on other parts of her body. Police said Nima has been taken into custody. — RSS

KASKI: A microbus knocked a girl to death at Tallo Gagangauda of Lekhnath Municipality in Kaski district on Wednesday morning. The girl has been identified as Pabitra Thapa, 11, of Tallo Gagangauda-13. — RSS
