Two bodies found

BARA: The Bara District Police Office found two bodies — one at Jeetpur and another at Mahendra Adharsha-3 of the district — on Saturday. The body of a youth, around 25 years of age, was found with his neck tied with rope under Lalaka Bridge at Jeetpur-9. The body of Laxman Mahara was found buried at Mahendra Adharsha-3. Laxman had been missing since June 26. — HNS

Leaders flay govt

Kathmandu: Political leader and lawyers on Saturday criticised the government for exposing its “cowardice” by not ratifying the Rome Statute despite pressure from different national and international human rights organisations. Speaking at an interaction on A Campaign Against Impunity and Ratification of Rome Statute, organised by Human Rights and Democratic Forum here today, CPN-UML Chief Whip, Mahendra Pandey, labelled the government’s failure to ratify the Rome Statute as an act of cowardice. Nepali Congress Chief Whip, Ananda Prasad Dhungana, also raised concern over the failure of the government to ratify the Rome Statute. — HNS

Mobile medical teams

Nepalgunj: Minister for Health and Population Giriraj Mani Pokhrel on Saturday said that special mobile teams of health workers will be deployed in all five development regions to control epidemics. Speaking at a press conference here, he said, “The decision has been made to make necessary stocks of medicine available in epidemics-prone districts,” he said. Free medical treatment will be provided to the poor and the needy, he added. “If the doctors are found wanting in their duty as per their appointment to the district, action will be taken against them,” Pokhrel said, pledging to control corruption and malpractices. — HNS

BIRGUNJ: Rabi Dahal, THT Birgunj correspondent, was felicitated here on Saturday. The Lions Club of Birgunj Greater, North and Youth, honoured Dahal for his contribution to the cause of sports in the district at a function organised to mark the World Sports Journalists Day. Regional chairperson of Lions Club of Birgunj, Ramesh Agrawal presented Dahal with awards. A letter of appreciation was given to another journalist Govinda Devkota. Elephant found dead

ITAHARI: A male elephant was found dead at Itahari-3 on Saturday morning. The elephant’s carcass was found in Buddhagumba Tree Plantation Area at Itahari-3, ranger at

the Tarahara Area Forest Office Shiva Budathoki said, adding that the elephant might have died of electrocution. — HNS

Civilian abducted

RAJBIRAJ: Cadres of the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-Jwala Singh on Saturday morning abducted a civilian Shiva Dahal of Rajbiraj-5 from Nakdhuwa VDC nearby Maruli Bridge. Dahal was abducted for interrogation on a land dispute case, JTMM-J area no.1 in-charge Hari Singh said. Police said an investigation into the case has been launched. Dahal’s family members have urged human right activists and journalist to take initiatives for his safe release. — HNS
