Nepal bird flu free

Kathmandu: The council of ministers on June 5 decided to nullify the decision of the government that had declared the area of three km radius in Mechinagar Municipality of Jhapa district as a Bird Flu hit area as per the Bird Flu Control Order 2064BS. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the disease had not been traced in the past 90 days under its close surveillance. "The order of disallowing poultry farming in the area has been withdrawn," said the ministry in a statement issued today. It also informed that imports of birds, eggs and their products from bird flu affected countries were banned. — HNS


Renaming insurgency

Kathmandu: The Committee to Determine the Basis of Cultural and Social Solidarity of the CA committee today conducted polls to determine a term to be used for the insurgency in its draft statute. After Maoist and non-Maoist lawmakers disputed over mentioning the phrase 'People's War' in the constitution, the committee decided to conduct voting to decide the issue. A majority 19 lawmakers voted for using the phrase 'Armed Conflict' instead of 'People's War'. Only 12 UCPN-Maoist votes were polled in favour of People's War. The committee resolved to go for the term chosen by the majority. — HNS


Two arrested

BARA: Police held two persons on the charge of possession of illegal drugs in Bara district on Sunday night. Hridaya Prasad Kurmi, a resident of Simara and Puskar Bhandari, a resident of Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, were arrested for possessing brown sugar, Bara District Police Office said. — HNS


Tharu cadres held

BANKE: Police held 12 cadres of the Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee in Banke district on Monday. TJSC cadres Bikram Chaudhari, Durga Chaudhari, Naresh Chaudhari, Kshitij Chaudhari, Puran Chaudhari, Chandrika Chaudhari, Mayaram Chaudhari, Kabiram Chaudhari, Ram Prasad Chaudhari and Ram Dayal Chaudhari were among the arrested in Rohini jungle near Kohalpur, Kohalpur Area Police Office said. TJSC cadres had seized a microbus stating that some youths were engaged in illicit activities inside the vehicle that was parked in the jungle. TJSC cadres had called the microbus owner and had demanded Rs 3 lakhs from him. However, the police reached the site on time to arrest the culprits. — HNS
