TU VC’s office locked

Kathmandu: Students of the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Pulchwok, on Monday padlocked the office of the Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University demanding that they be called for talks over an exam centre. Janak Raj Joshi, president of the Free Students’ Union, IOE, Pulchwok, said: “We are protesting against the decision to set up the centre for the BE first part examination at Janakpur Engineering College.” — HNS

Govt on Pak men case

Kathmandu: Government authorities on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that they have detained four Pakistanis after they failed to post bail in a fake passports case. The Home Ministry and the Department of Prison told the court they have been detaining the four as they failed to post the bail amount of Rs 4 lakhs. The authorities were responding to show cause notices issued by the court on the Pakistanis’ detention on May 31. — HNS

CIAA grills ex-CoAS

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Tuesday interrogated former Chief of Army Staff General Pyar Jung Thapa for the third time. The Rayamajhi Commission report has indicted Thapa for the killings and the misuse the state treasury during Jana Andolan-II. The CIAA has been interrogating him on the misuse of state treasury as the report has accused him of misusing more than Rs 20 million during the Jana Andolan II. — HNS

Indian aid for schools

Kathmandu: Three separate Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) were signed on Tuesday by the Embassy of India with District Development Committees concerned and school authorities for the construction of new school buildings. India is providing grants of Rs 4.3 million, Rs 26.8 million and Rs 24.9 million for the construction of buildings of the Bhimgithe secondary School in Baglung district, Padmodaya Higher Secondary School in Dang district and Chandannath Higher Secondary School in Khalanga Bazar of the remote Jumla district. — HNS
