Maoist vehicle seized
KATHMANDU: A police team from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kalimati, on Wednesdasy seized a vehicle used by Maoists at Kuleshwor. Police said the vehicle had no valid registration number but had “PLA Brigade 4” written on the number plate. — HNS
74-yr-old shot dead
Bara: Seventy-four-year-old Surya Prasad Upreti of Hanumangunj in Sapahi-1, Bara, was shot dead by dacoits on Tuesday night. The dacoits opened fire on locals when the latter tried to resist them. The dacoits also beat up two locals, leaving them injured. — HNS
Five taken ill
BARA: Five persons of Jhitkaiyya in Bara fell sick after consuming pigeon meat in a picnic on Wednesday. Suresh Yadav, Binesh Mandal, Nagendra Mandal, Subash Patel and Kundar Yadav are undergoing treatment in Kalaiya Hospital. Medical professionals said the meat they consumed might have been contaminated. — HNS
Businessman robbed
GAIGHAT: An armed group of men looted Rs 2.67 lakh from a businessman, who was returning from Gaighat on a vehicle, at Laxmipur on the Kadmaha-Gaighat road section on Tuesday. The gang of four stopped the vehicle belonging to Nilkamal Hardware Company at around 7 pm and robbed the businessman. A hunt for the robbers is on, police said. — HNS
Health policy lauded
KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population Girirajmani Pokharel said on Wednesday that the international community has appreciated the health policy adopted by the government formed after the restoration of democracy. “I found the international community positive about the government’s policy on health, especially the mention of health as a fundamental right in the interim constitution, free health service to the needy and the marginalised.” Pokharel returned on Wednesday after taking part in the 60th World Health Assembly that was held in Geneva from May 14 to 23.— HNS
JTMM seizes land
Siraha: Cadres of the Jwala Singh-led Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha have seized land and two houses belonging to locals in the past 24 hours. JTMM-Jwala Dhanusha-Siraha area in-charge, Swamiji, said: “JTMM-Jwala cadres last night captured five bighas of land and a two-storey building belonging to Bishwo Nath Upadhyaya at Bidhyapur VDC. They also captured five bighas of land and a building belonging to Mukunda Upadhyaya in the VDC.” JTMM-Jwala cadres also seized six bighas, 9 katthas and 12 dhoors of land belonging to Ganesh Pokhrel at Bhadaiya VDC on Wednesday. — HNS
Border security up
NEW DELHI: Security has been beefed up in areas of Uttar Pradesh state that border Nepal. The move follows a series of bomb blasts in the border town of Gorakhpur on Tuesday, security officials said. “The border has been sealed and security personnel put on high alert,” Director General of Police Giridhari Lal Sharma told journalists. All entry points to Gorakhpur, including those from Nepal, were closed on Wednesday. — HNS
