Boy killed in blast

Nepalgunj: A boy was killed and another injured when stray bombs exploded in two separate incidents in remote villages of Kalikot on Tuesday. Twelve-year-old Jung Darji was killed in the blast at Badhaimala village in Kodbada-9, some 35 km west of Manma, the district headquarters of Kalikot, DSP Posh Raj Pokharel said. Darji was playing with the bomb when it exploded. In another incident, 14-year-old Dil Bahadur Shahi of Siku in Badalkot-7 was injured when a bomb lying in a fields in the village went off. Shahi is undergoing treatment in the District Hospital at Manma. — HNS

Maoists abduct one

PYUTHAN: Maoists have abducted one Dil Bahadur Rana of Dhungethanti VDC-8 of Pyuthan and kept him in labour camp since February 22. Maoist activist Ram Bahadur KC of Haansipur VDC-6 in Dang abducted Rana when he was visiting his daughter in the district, Rana’s neighbour Ganesh Bahadur Sunar said. The Maoists have said that Rana has been detained in the labour camp as he is yet to return some money he owed to Jokh Bahadur Damai of Haansipur. Rana would be lodged in the camp until he repays Damai, KC said. — HNS

Two captured, freed

BARA: Cadres of the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) seized two employees of the Janachetana Jagaran Aviyan (JJA), Bara, for three hours on Thursday. The two employees, JJA’s project chief Surendra Shah and social mobiliser Shrijana KC, were on the way to Pipradi on a motorcycle. Human rights activists said Shah and KC agreed to pay tax to the ‘Tarai government’ and provide jobs to the Tarai people. — HNS

Campus locked

Syangja: Accusing the chief of the Waling Multiple Campus of not taking action against a lecturer, Krishna Pathik, who “sexually exploited” a girl student, students padlocked the campus on Thursday. The students said the lockout will continue till the campus chief, Sachchidananda Yadav, resigns, police said. The girl had come to Waling to prepare for the forthcoming SLC exams. — HNS

Shop gutted

BHADRAPUR: Property worth Rs 2 million was gutted when fire broke out at a shop owned by Pratap Jain of Kumarkhod-9 on Wednesday morning. The fire destroyed a two-room house and goods worth Rs 1.5 million, Jain said. Fire tenders from Bhadrapur and Damak with help from locals and police doused the flames after two hours. — RSS

Free health camp

MAKWANPUR: Women from rural areas of Makwanpur district suffering from uterine prolapse can avail of free treatment in four different health camps in the district. Free services will be provided jointly by the UNFPA, Rotary Club of Kathmandu Mid-Town, Disabled Child Hospital and the Rehabilitation Centre, Banepa. The four places selected for the camp are Padma Pokhari, Chhatiwan, Dadabas and Lothar. — RSS

Fund for schools

TANAHU: Rs 11.5 million received under the ‘’Education for All’’ programme has been distributed to 36 schools. The schools selected by an all-party meeting were provided with Rs 320,000 each. The Branch Officer at the District Education Office, Tanahu, Tukaraj Adhikari, said the fund was sanctioned to the selected schools on the basis of the academic index and physical infrastructure index for the construction of two-room blocks. — RSS
