NC cadre dead

DHANKUTA: Upon hearing the news of the demise of former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala, an NC cadre in Dhankuta has died of a heart attack. Shiva Kumar Udas of Dhankuta-4, Debrebas, lost his consciousness while watching a television programme on Koirala at 9 pm on Saturday. He died while being rushed to the Dhankuta hospital for treatment. Nepali Congress Dhankuta district committee has decided to keep a condolence register at Bhimnarayan Chowk from March 22 till April 1.

Five houses gutted

PHIDIM: Five houses were destroyed in a fire at Suvang-1 in the district. The houses of Raj Kumar Pariyar, Samjhana Siwa, Tek Bahadur Pariyar, Man Kumar Pariyar and Sukraraj Yokpangden were destroyed. According to a local Lakshyaprapti Timilsana, two oxen, a cow and dozens of hens, pigs and goats were killed in the incident. According to DSP Yagyabinod Pokhrel, a police team was sent to the incident site to take the fire under control and collect the details of the damage.

One drowns

DHULIKHEL: One Bibek Shrestha of Subbagaun in Panauti Municipality drowned while swimming in Sunkoshi River on Saturday. According to the Dolalghat Police Office, Bibek Shrestha drowned to death at around 1:40 pm. However, boatman in the area saved another Sabin Shrestha from drowning. The dead body of Bibek has been handed over to his family, police added.
