Man gunned down

PARASI: Rajendra Poudel, a resident of Bankatti in Parroha VDC, was shot dead in Hukai by a gang on Wednesday night. Poudel was working as a cook for the workers of Rayamajhi Construction engaged in the construction of a bridge over Turiyakhola. A gang had been threatening the workers of the construction company demanding money from the contractors. “We cannot continue construction as the workers are being killed,” said Bharat Rayamajhi, proprietor of the construction company. — HNS

One drowned

SANKHUWASABHA: A person drowned in a river in Sankhuwasabha district on Wednesday. Kebal Gurung, 20, a resident of Tungechha-1 of Bhojpur, drowned in the Sabhakhola river when he had gone for a swim, police said. Locals found the body floating in the river on Thursday. The body has been taken to Khandbari hospital for post-mortem. — HNS

Gun found in school

KAPILVASTU: A pistol was found in Sanskrit Secondary School in Taulihawa on Thursday. “Classes were disrupted after the pistol was seen in the school ground in the morning,” headmaster Phanindra Sigdel said. “Though the gun was loaded, it wouldn’t have gone off as the bullets had started to rust,” said Inspector Lilaraj Lamichhane. Police said a probe is underway. — HNS
