Mainali’s stand
BHADRAPUR: CP Mainali, general secretary of the CPN (ML) has said the institution of monarchy cannot be removed with international assistance. Speaking at a press conference organised at Birtamod here on Sunday, he also expressed the view that the issue of removing the monarchy depends on the Nepali Congress even if the election to constituent assembly takes place in the country. — RSS
Elephant kills one
ITAHARI: Tetaru Chaudhari, 58, of Baklauri VDC in Sunsari district was trampled to death by a wild elephant on Sunday morning, said the Pakali area police office. The elephant attacked Chaudhari while he was washing his face at a nearby river along with his friends. The elephant attacked them and all but Chaudhari managed to run away. — HNS
Maghe Sankranti
RATNANAGAR: A large number of pilgrims on Sunday converged at Devghat to take a holy bath on the day of Maghe Sankranti. Pilgrims from Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Tanahun and other districts thronged the confluence of Trishuli and Gandaki river at Devghat. Devghat Area Development Committee has said pilgrims from other parts of the country, including Kathmandu and India, had reached the holy place. — RSS
One dies of cold
BARA: Mansi Majhi Musahar, 40, of Telkuwa-9 VDC in Bara district died of cold on Saturday night, a local, Gopal Prasad Yadav, said. With Majhi’s death, the toll due to the cold wave has risen to 10 in Bara. — HNS
NSU activist ‘attacked’
SURKHET: A district working committee member of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) has accused four Maoist cadres of attacking him. “Four Maoist cadres attacked me in front of the contact office of the Maoists near Ghantaghar on Sunday,” the committee member, Bhojraj Joshi, said. Joshi has been undergoing treatment in the Deuti Nursing Home. A source at the Maoists’ district committee said it will investigate the incident. — HNS
