SC recalls judge Jha

Kathmandu: The Supreme Court on Friday called judge Paramananda Jha back from the Biratnagar Appellate Court after it reached an agreement with the Nepal Bar Association and decided not to give him any judicial job. “We have called him here,” SC Registrar Dr Ram Krishna Timalsena told this daily. The Judicial Council, headed by Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel, will take a decision on him. The SC and the Nepal Bar Association had yesterday agreed not to give any judicial job to Jha. “He (Jha) will participate in a training for a few days and the Judicial Council will take an appropriate decision on him until then,” Timalsena said. — HNS

Dhankuta bandh

DHANKUTA: Dhankuta was shut on Friday at the call of students protesting the Education Act Amendment Bill, which has proposed special provisions for temporary teachers. Students staged a rally in the morning and vandalised a hotel and some vehicles. Shops, factories and academic institutions remained closed. Hundreds of passengers bound for different destinations were stranded as vehicles remained off the roads. Some medical stores, however, remained open. Meanwhile, the lock out at the Eastern Regional Education Directorate and District Education Office continued on Friday as well. — HNS

Injured rhino dies

Chitwan: A one-horned rhino that was hit by poachers’ bullets some days ago died in Chitwan on Friday morning. The wounded rhino was found in the Bhimwali community forest area in Chitwan on Tuesday. A team of staffers of the Chitwan National Park and Chitwan District Forest Office was treating it. — HNS

One killed in mishap

ITAHARI: A leader of Nepali Congress (Democratic) died when he was knocked down by a tractor on Thursday. Vice chairman of No 4 area, Nageshwor Das Chaudhary, died on the spot when he was hit by the tractor at 8:00 pm, said sub inspector in the eastern regional traffic police office, Bir Bahadur Thapa. The police is searching for the tractor. — HNS

SAARC anniversary

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Friday extended greetings and best wishes to the people of South Asia on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the founding of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). In a message, Koirala said it is time to retrospect into the noble objectives of SAARC and to reassert ourselves to the lofty ideals of the regional body as envisaged in its Charter. — RSS

Student stabbed

ITAHARI: A student of Bishwo Adarsha Higher Secondary School in Itahari was critically injured after his friend stabbed him on Friday. Sandip Adhikari, an 11-grader was injured when his friend Yubin Shakya stabbed him. Adhikari who sustained critical injury in his intestine is undergoing treatment in BP Koirala Institute of Health Science in Dharan, said SI at area police office in Itahari, Sanjeev Katuwal. Shakya has absconded. — HNS

Nepali dies in Delhi

MAHENDRANAGAR: A Nepali national who was returning to Nepal from New Delhi (India) died in the Indian capital on Wednesday. It is suspected that he died of consuming posioned food offered to him. however, the cause of his death is yet to be ascertained, said the district police office (Kanchanpur). The dead person is yet to be identified, but a paper slip with “Harihar Singh Bist, Dodhara Babathan and Jumla Dhapa-9” written on it was found with him, police said. — HNS
