Police post gheraoed

BHAIRAHAWA: Locals on Thursday gheraoed the Dhakdhai police post at Basantpur village development committee in Rupandehi district for three hours, alleging that the police beat up a civilian for no reason. The locals gheraoed the police post after a sub-inspector at the post, Surya Man Chaudhari, beat up a local Bijaya Sharma. The dispute was settled after SI Chaudhari apologised to people. Chaudhari mistreated Sharma while locals were handing over one Raju Musalman to the police for allegedly stealing a bicycle. Locals also alleged that Chaudhari was in collusion with thieves. Superintendent of Police at the Rupandehi district police office Jagat Bista said the minor dispute was settled through mutual understanding. — HNS

Goon gunned down

Birgunj: A member of the Chhote Lal Sahani-led Indian criminal gang, which has been terrorising local businessmen, was killed in an encounter with the police on Wednesday night. Shiva Sahani, one of the members of the gang, was killed by the police, Parsa district police chief Superintendent of Police Ramesh Phuyal said. Shiva was involved in the recent killing of a Kalaiya businessman, Abhimanyu Shah, police said quoting witnesses. — HNS

KATHMANDU: The National Youth Service trust has decided to give away Araniko Youth Prize -2063 to artists duo Sushma Rajbhandari and Sunita Rana for their contribution in Nepali painting genre.
