Smugglers held

GAIGHAT: Nine persons were arrested on the charge of smuggling timber from Chure forest in Udaypur. The District Forest Office said a joint team of community forest users’ group, forest employees and police had arrested nine persons on Monday. According to ranger Lomnath Timilsina, Bechu Sada, Saini Sada, Dambar Sada, Manoj Sada, Badri Sada, Binod Sada, Mohammad Islam, Basir and Gangaprasad Yadav were arrested by the joint team. “All the arrested have been detained at the district forest office,” said ranger Timilsina. — HNS

Three lakhs looted

RAUTAHAT: A gang of dacoits on Sunday night looted property worth Rs 3 lakh from four houses in Pathara Budharam VDC, Rautahat. The gang of 15 looted cash, clothes and valuables from the houses of Ram Ayodhya Kushabaha, Bikram Shah, Ramkanta Shah and Rajendra Shah of Pathara Budharam VDC-5. Meanwhile, three villagers were injured, while retaliating with the dacoits. Ramayodhyaya, Bikram and Ramakanta have sustained deep injuries, as the dacoits had attacked them with sharp weapons, the police said — HNS

Refugee documentary

KATHMANDU: Minster for Information and Communications Shankar Pokharel inaugurated a premiere of a documentary on the plight of Bhutanese refugees on Monday.

The documentary, ‘Displacement by Design’, a joint initiative of Lutheran World Federation Nepal and INHURED International illustrated the pathetic condition of the Bhutanese refugees. — HNS
