Aid for flood-hit :

KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom (NT) has decided to provide Rs 1.5m to the Prime Minister Natural Calamities Relief Fund for people affected by floods in different parts of the country. This was decided in the meeting of the board of directors of NT held here on Sunday. — HNS

Landless on warpath :

DANG: Stating that seven political parties failed to meet their demands, landless farmers said in a press meet held here on Tuesday they would padlock district-based offices of the seven parties from Sunday. Coordinator of the Land Rights Forum Dang Shanta Chaudhari said, “Though the district chapters of the parties, in a meeting held on September 9, had agreed to put pressure on the leadership of the parties to meet the demands, the chapters have not even sent a letter to the centre yet.” — HNS

Danish minister’s visit :

KATHMANDU: Danish Minister for Development Cooperation Ulla Tornaes is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on September 19 on a three-day visit, according to Danish ambassador to Nepal, Finn Thilsted. She is scheduled to meet PM Girija Prasad Koirala, Education minister Mangal Siddhi Manandhar, Speaker Subas Nembang, Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and representatives of civil society. — HNS

TU lockout lifted :

KIRTIPUR: The central department of Rural Development, Tribhuvan University, resumed its work on Tuesday. The Rural Development Students Society had locked the department on September 8 to protest the decision to cut grant for photocopying. — HNS

MAHOTTARI: Maoists have stopped collecting taxes in Mahottari with immediate effect, Mahottari district secretary of the CPN (Maoist), Suman, and people’s district government chief, Rajendra Shah, said. — HNS
