One arrested with 164 kg Hashish in Dhading

DHADING: Police arrested an Indian national with 164 kilograms of hashish from near Gajuri Bazaar of Dhading district along the Prithvi Highway on Thursday night.

The arrestee has been identified as Mohammad Taap (25) from Uttar Pradesh of India.

According to Dhading District Police Office (DPO), police personnel deployed from Gajuri Area Police Office stopped a truck with Indian registration (UP 19 P 5171) at Gajuri checkpoint during a regular security screening and confiscated hashish hidden inside the vehicle. Police arrested Taap on the charge of smuggling the illegal drugs from Nepal to India.

Police have impounded the truck and detained Taap for further investigation.

Dhading Police has already confiscated 650 kg marijuana and 1,300 kg hashish, and arrested 36 people this fiscal year.

With the increasing number of reports of drugs smuggling using the highway, Dhading Police have launched a campaign to strengthen security in a bid to control drug trafficking by establishing special checkpoints along the highway, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajkumar Baidawar at Dhading DPO.

Police personnel are on high alert along the highway, said Baidwar.
