BHOJPUR: A person has lost his life in an attempt to douse fire that had started in a community forest at Ilame Thalakham in Shahidbhumi of Dhankuta district, on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old local Benu Prasad Rai, according to police.

Rai was critically injured while trying to extinguish the fire around 3:00 pm yesterday.

He breathed his last on the way to Biratnagar-based Birat Nursing Home, according to provincial police office of Province 1, Biratnagar.

Meanwhile, the fire also completely destroyed Rai's one-storey house and shed, informed the Area Police Office, Chhintang.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and further investigation into the case is underway.
