One held for Itahari trader couple’s murder

Itahari, June 2:

Police today said they recently arrested a person in connection with the murder of a trader couple in Itahari.

They added that a search is on to arrest two of his accomplices. Kailash Chandra Agrawal and his wife Kanta Devi were murdered over a month ago in Itahari.

In a report made public today at the insistence of locals and the business community, the police said they have made significant progress in the murder probe.

The probe committee has also found errors on the part of inspector Viswamani Pokhrel of the Itahari Area Police Office, who had carried out the preliminary investigation in the case.

SSP Deepak Ranjit has taken Pokhrel’s dossier to the Police Headquarters and departmental action will be initiated against him, SP Yadav Khanal of the Sunsari district police office said while making the report public.

During investigation, the police also arrested Bishnu Bhandari of Khanar and his two associates with three pistols, the report said.

Meanwhile, president of the Sunsari Chambers of Commerce and Industries (SCCI) Ashok Tamrakar hailed the police breakthrough and urged the

police to solve the case at the earliest. The business community will launch an agitation if the probe is delayed, he said.

Also today, SCCI working committee member Jagdish Sapkota announced his resignation from the all-party probe committee formed to investigate the murders saying that he was not satisfied with the police report.
