GAIGHAT: A person has been arrested in possession of a huge cache of illegal firecrackers and chewing tobacco in Ghaighat, of Udayapur district, on Wednesday.

District Police Office, Udayapur, arrested Rekha Yadav of Kanchanpur Municipality-8 in Saptari district, today. She was arrested after police intercepted a bus (Na 3 Kha 2477) heading to Gaighat from Fatepur while carrying out a routine security check in the area.

Acting on a tip-off, police seized 88 kilograms of chewing tobacco and 1,080 pieces of firecrackers hidden inside the sack, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bir Bahadur Magar shared.

Meanwhile, Yadav has been detained at the District Police Office, Udayapur, for further investigation.

With the onset of Tihar festival, also known as Deepawali, firecrackers in huge quantity are brought to Gaighat and other neighbouring districts from India.
