One killed, 16 hurt in Nawalpur accident

NAWALPUR: At least one person died and sixteen persons sustained injuries as a bus turned turtle after hitting a motorbike near Gadabar river in Madhyabindu Municipality-8 in Nawalpur district along the East-West Highway today.

According to Nawalpur District Police Office, pillion rider 28-year-old Chandra Kumari Somai Magar of Madyabindu-11 breathed her last on the way to a hospital.

The ill-fated bus (Na 6 Kha 9676) heading in westward direction knocked down a motorbike (Ba 51 Pa 6973) travelling in the same direction along the highway this afternoon injuring 16 persons on board, according to police.

The bike rider 35-year-old Lal Bahadur Somai Magar, who sustained injuries in the accident, is undergoing treatment at Madhyabindu Hospital, police informed. The victims -- Chandra Kumari and Lal Bahadur -- are said to be husband and wife.

Among the injured passengers, four are said to be in critical condition, police said. All the injured victims are receiving treatment at Community Memorial Hospital in Danda of Kawasoti in the district.

Meanwhile, the critically injured bus driver is undergoing treatment at Bharatpur Hospital, police informed.
