One more year' wait for Guinness record

POKHARA: While he was celebrating his 18th birthday in the second week of October, Khagendra Thapa Magar had hoped to be officially registered his name for his extraordinary size in the Guinness Book of World Records.

But, he has to wait for one more year for the purpose. The 20-inch tall Khagendra has a weight of 5.5 kg. He was born on October 14, 1992 in Dhullu Basakot of Baglung district.

His name was sent to the headquarters of Guinness Book during his 18th birthday. "But were told that one more year has to be waited for writing his name," said Min Bahadur Rana Magar, president, Khagendra Thapa Magar Council.

Before this, a copy of citizenship paper had been sent when the headquarters had sought evidence. According to Min Bahadur, the council has also been trying to register his name as the lightest person of the world. "Evidence of his weight and health report has also been sent."

Khagendra has been studying in Pokhara's Nagdhunga based Saraswoti Boarding School in LKG. The pigmy boy had learned to walk at the age of eight while his physical growth was stopped at the age of 11. His weight at the date of birth was just 600 grams.

Both of his parents have average size and weight. Dhanamaya, his mother, said that she used to massage him with oil as he was a newborn.

"When he starts playing with friends, he forgets eating as well. He eats little at a time but he feels hungry in every two hours," she said.

Min Bahadur lamented as the government did nothing significant to support for Khagendra's cause.
