One trapped in river rescued

Siraha, July 12

After hours long efforts, Nepali Army personnel have rescued a man of Karjanha Municipality, Siraha, who had been trapped in the swollen Kamala River for the past 24 hours.

The rescued person has been identified as Bechu Mukhiya, 60, of Bandipur in Karjanha-2.

Though Nepali Army personnel were at work since morning, the man couldn’t be rescued due to high water level in the river. With the water level receding, the NA personnel rescued the man this evening only.

Mukhiya, who had cultivated a strip of land in the middle of the river, had gone to visit the field and he was trapped in the swollen river following the rainfall. He had perched atop a tree.

Five persons trapped in the middle of the river in Nirdana, Kalyanpur-6, are yet to be rescued.

“Though we have a chopper standby for the rescue, it hasn’t been able to fly here due to adverse weather condition, and our attempts to rescue them have been affected by the high water level in the river,” said Chief District Officer Gopal Prasad Adhikari.
