Only 30 pc paddy plantation completed in Dhankuta

Prolonged drought has adversely affected paddy plantation with only 30 per cent paddy plantation completed in Dhankuta till date.

According to Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Dhankuta, compared to last year, paddy plantation in the district was significantly less this year. Chief at the centre Rajesh Kumar KC said that in Dhankuta Municipality paddy plantation was done in only five per cent farmlands.

Around 60 per cent paddy plantation has been completed in Sahidbhumi Rural Municipality. Similarly, Pakhribas Municipality has seen 25 per cent paddy plantation, Mahalaxmi Municipality and Chaubise Rural Municipality have seen 35 per cent paddy plantation.

KC also said farmers had cultivated 25 per cent farmlands in Chhathar and Sangurigadi rural municipalities.  The centre said Dhankuta Municipality produced 40 per cent of the total paddy produced in the district.

People fear a huge drop in paddy production this year due to drought. Around 15,934 metric tonnes paddy was produced last year in Dhankuta.
