Over 750 journalists have contracted Covid-19 till date, since the advent of the pandemic, while 13 have succumbed to the disease, according to the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).
The FNJ, an umbrella organization of journalists/media workers, has appealed all journalists to acknowledge the intensity of the ongoing crisis and its probable health risks.
The Federation also urged the journalists to focus on personal health and safety as well. "It urged journalists to continue with their tasks by following all possible health safety measures," said the FNJ in a press statement here today.
Meanwhile, the FNJ has expressed sorrow over the demise of Shanti Ram Karki, Chairperson of FNJ Channel Nepal Pratishthan Unit.
The 34-year-old journalist who had tested positive for the Coronavirus on May 2, passed away on Saturday morning at Manmohan Memorial Hospital in Swayambhu, Kathmandu.
"With the passing away of Karki, Nepali journalism has lost a promising, professional and dynamic young personality,'' the FNJ said.
