Pasang Dawa Sherpa has scaled Mt Everest for the second time, equalizing a world record of most ascents with Kami Rita Sherpa.

The 46-year-old climber stood atop Mt Everest for the 27th time at around 8:30am, said Mingma Gyaljen Sherpa, Managing Director at Imagine Nepal Treks.

"Pa Dawa scaled Everest becoming the second person in the world to make the 27th ascent," he said.

He scaled Mt Everest on May 14 this season with Marton Peter Price from Hungary. He was born in Pangboche which is close to Everest and he grew up seeing Everest everyday. His Everest Summit are in 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, twice in 2006, twice in 2007, 2008, 2009, twice in 2010, 2011, 2012, twice in 2013, 2016,2017, twice in 2018 and twice in 2019 and twice in 2022.

Meanwhile, Kamirita Sherpa has also left for high camp to attempt to scale Mt Everest for second time this season. "Kami Rita would scale Everest in a day or two for the 28th time," Thaneswar Guragai, General Manager at Seven Summit Treks, said.

Kami Rita, 53, made the 27th successful ascent of Mt Everest on May 17 this season. Kami Rita, who is working as a Senior Climbing Guide at Seven Summit Treks Pvt Ltd, had scaled the Mt Everest for the first time in 1994 May 13. Between 1994 to 2023 he scaled the peak 27 times, K2 and Lhotse one time, Manaslu thrice, and Cho Oyu eight times. Kami Rita Sherpa, as such, holds the record for 'Most climbs over 8000m'.
