Palpa locals face transport problems with piles of landslide debris

KATHMANDU: People in Palpa district have been facing problems in transportation since piles of landslide debris deposited at various places along a local road have not been removed yet for the past one month.

It has been reported that the landslides occurred at seven different places from Sundaredhunga of Rainadevi Chhahara Rural Municipality to Juthapauwa, completely obstructing the vehicular movement.

As a result, local residents are compelled to walk around two hours to reach to their respective destinations from mid-June due to the closure of bus service following the landslide. Mostly, elderly persons and children have been hit hard due to obstruction of transport service following the landslides.

The bus service was brought into operation from Juthapawa to Saljhandi in the last fiscal year.

The rural municipality has not paid any attention to remove the landslide debris, local Som Bahadur Rayamajhi said. However, chairperson of Rainadevi Chhahara Rural Municipality, Ram Bahadur Karki said that the transport service would resume after removing the landslide debris soon after the rain stops.
