Panel begins probe into MP Shrestha’s assassination

Siraha, September 25 :

A three-member probe committee led by eastern regional administrator, Shankar Lal Chaudhari, has begun its investigation into the murder of Rastriya Prajatantra Party central member and MP Krishna Charan Shrestha. The committee today inspected the murder spot.

Siraha CDO Shashi Shekhar Shrestha said the probe committee noted the versions of eyewitnesses yesterday. Shrestha was shot dead at Belha-4 while he was returning home after a morning walk on Saturday. A villager was also killed when locals put up resistance against the attackers.

Meanwhile, a team of rights groups and journalists inspected the spot. Chairperson of the Samagra Janautthan Kendra (Lahan) Sunil Kumar Shah, who was part of the team, said that if the clues to the incident are not picked up by the government promptly, the reality would get distorted.

Former ward chairperson Raj Kumar Mukhiya said two suspects were caught and handed over to the police today.

SP at the District Police Office, Bhog Bahadur Thapa, said nothing incriminating had been found from the suspects handed over by locals.
