Panel to revise emission rules

Kathmandu, June 20:

The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MoEST) today formed a committee to revise the Emission Control Regulations 2056 as the pressure to allow the import and operation of three-wheelers in the country mounted.

It may be noted that the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) is demanding that automobile dealers be allowed to import diesel-run three-wheelers.

A participant at the meeting held today said, “An application had been filed at the DoTM four months ago. It was disclosed today that secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Transportation Management has decided to let the three-wheelers operate. The DoTM later wrote to the MoEST to make ‘an appropriate’ decision.”

Joint-secretary at the MoEST Khumraj Punjali said that a meeting was held in the ministry today to revise emission control regulations.
