Endangered pangolin found in Jhapa

JHAPA: A pangolin was found in Bahundangi of Mechinagar Municipality-9 in Jhapa district.

Locally known as Salak, the animal designated as endangered by the National Park and Wildlife Act 2029, was found by a local Haleswar Rajbansi on the bank of the Mechi River. He was reportedly looking for mushroom when he came across the rare species.

Rajbansi then informed the nearby police post about the discovery. The pangolin was then rescued and handed over to the District Forest Office, Jhapa, police said.

The pangolin or Manis pentadactyla is found in Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Taiwan and China. It is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN.
