Kathmandu, May 7

Tribhuvan University part-time teachers have been boycotting classes for the last eight days demanding employment contract.

There are 1,420 part-time teachers across the country working at constituent colleges of Tribhuvan University, according Nepal Part-time Teachers’ Association members.

Earlier, in the month of October, president of NPTTA Mahesh Kumar Gajurel had staged a 17-day hunger strike. He had ended the hunger strike after the Ministry of Education agreed to fulfil the vacant posts of teachers in TU from among part-time teachers.

Speaking to THT Gajurel said, “Although the then government had promised to fulfil our demands, the incumbent government has shown no sign that it will address our issues. Thus, we have decided to boycott classes.”

According to the rector of TU Prof Sudha Tripathi, the university cannot take any decision on giving contract-based appointment to such a large number of part-time teachers.
