The leaders and cadres of CPN-UML, Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre, among other political parties, in Tanahun are busy selecting their candidates for the upcoming local level election.

Political parties have been organising election campaigns and assembly to collect the name list of people aspiring to contest for various positions, including mayor, vice-mayor, ward chairperson, rural municipality chairperson and vice-chairperson, among others, in the civic poll slated for May 14.

Nepali Congress Tanahun president Baikuntha Neupane said his party had formed a committee to collect and submit the name list of candidates contesting for municipality and rural municipality chiefs to the regional committee. Neupane said coordinators of the committee were deployed in each ward of the district.

He added that the committee was deployed to recommend names of candidates from 85 wards in the district. “As many as 17 candidates have filed their candidacy for ward chairpersons,” he informed. Neupane said the NC will confirm and announce its candidates for all posts by April 20.

Similarly, UML’s Secretariat member Shree Ram Karki said his party was preparing to select competent candidates. “The name list of candidates from rural municipality will come within April 12,” he said.
