Parties to counter govt bid to foil stir

Pokhara, March 23:

Central member of the Nepali Congress, Sujata Koirala, today said the seven-party alliance would counter any attempt by the government to foil the ‘decisive stir’ to be launched from April 6.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Kaski branch of Nepal Press Union, Koirala said the political parties will retaliate if the government imposes curfew and issues prohibitory orders.

“Our stir will go ahead despite the curfew,” she said.

Stating that there would be no infiltration of Maoists in the ‘peaceful movement,’ she said the parties would be ever alert of a possible infiltration of government agents in a bid to foil the rallies.

Koirala, who arrived here yesterday in course of a publicity campaign for the movement, said the stir will bring about total democracy in the country.

Koirala accused the Maoists of breaching the 12-point pact reached with the parties time and again by continuing killings and damaging public property.

She also ruled out any possibility of talks with the King. “If the King seriously wants a dialogue then he should create an environment conducive for it,” she said.

She further stressed the need of re-unification of the Nepali Congress and the Nepali Congress (Democratic) to lend vigour to the agitation.
