Parturition service halted in Bhojpur District Hospital

Bhojpur, June 30

Parturition services in the District Hospital in Bhojpur halted after the hospital administration did not acquiesce to its only parturition doctor’s demand for higher pay.

The district hospital was the only hospital in Bhojpur that carried out caesarean section births, but the service came to a halt after Dr Sunil Sah left the district.

Chief of District Health Office, Bhojpur Dr Nawal Kishwor Jha said that Dr Sah was paid Rs 190, 000 per month, and the hospital could not afford to pay the Rs 250,000 per month that Dr Sah asked for. “Dr Sah left the hospital after it said it could not afford to pay that salary,” Dr Jha informed.

Dr Sah had been working in the hospital for the last six months. He had stopped operating for one month demanding a hike in his pay before leaving the job.

“We will refer patients requiring caesarean section births to other health facilities,” he informed. Health workers said that patients have to deal with the same issue every year because there is no permanent quota in the hospital.
