Past govt misused funds, says report

Kathmandu, February 24:

The previous government has been found to have haphazardly distributed over Rs 16 million to different persons and institutions close to power in the fiscal years 2006-07 and 2007/08.

A report forwarded recently by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the legislature-parliament showed that a large amount of funds had been haphazardly distributed to individuals and organisations.

For instance, the then government provided Rs 2.5 million to a non-government organisation, Okhaldhungeli Hatemalo Society; Rs 6 lakh to All Nepal National Free Students’ Union; Rs 1 million to Janaandolan Smriti Pratisthan and Rs 2 lakh to Samaj Sudhar Yuba Sangh, Jhapa.

The PAC had demanded the report on the distribution of funds from the Ministry.
