Path cleared for formation of High Courts in provinces
KATHMANDU: The Parliament on Sunday endorsed three vital bills related to restructuring of judiciary as per the new Constitution, clearing the path for forming High Courts in seven provinces.
Judicial Administration Bill, Judicial Service Commission Bill and Judicial Council Bill were endorsed by the Parliament meeting with majority votes today upon the proposal tabled by Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajaya Shankar Nayak.
The Constitution promulgated on September 20 last year has a provision that a High Court should be formed in each of the seven provinces as restructured in the federal model of nation within one year of the Constitution promulgation.
The House was scheduled to endorse the bills on Friday, but the lack of quorum had stalled the passage.
Now, the existing 16 Appellate Courts would be dissolved.
