Paudel pledges support to new NC prez Deuba

Damauli, April 9

Nepali Congress senior leader Ramchandra Paudel today said he was for making newly-elected party president Sher Bahadur Deuba’s stint in office successful.

Speaking at a programme organised by the party in Damauli today, the NC leader clarified that he was not for making himself strong at the cost of the party as a whole.

“It’s true that I’ve lost the elections for party presidency and parliamentary party leader to Deuba, but elections are what makes a democracy work. It is natural for someone to win and the next person to lose an election—at least I take it that way,” he argued, pledging his unconditional support to party president and parliamentary leader Deuba.

“Despite the elections and their results, I’m out-and-out committed to making his stint fruitful,” added Paudel.

On a different note, the Congress leader also accused the incumbent government led by CPN-UML of failing to address the concerns of the Madhes-based parties, especially the United Democratic Madheshi Front.

“It is the government’s responsibility to take the disgruntled lot into confidence, but as the Oli-led government has failed to do this. Now, the NC-led government that will solve the crisis,” said the Congress leader.

Paudel, who also accused the present government of failing to deliver as per people’s expectations, however, argued that his party is not in a haste to lead the government. “In fact as the present government is failing on various fronts, it is likely to fall soon,” he argued.
