PCL phase-out row ends

KATHMANDU: The Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) of Tribhuvan University will not be phased out for at least one year. A tripartite talk amongst the representatives from the student unions, Tribhuvan University and the Ministry of Education reached a three-point agreement: TU to continue admission in the PCL, 13 student unions and Maoist affiliated student union to withdraw protest and a commission to be formed decide the process to phase out PCL. Hem Raj Adhikari, Registrar of TU, said admissions in the PCL will continue this time. "A commission will be formed to study the matter for phasing out the PCL next year," he said. The commission will comprise of representatives from the MoE, TU, Higher Secondary Education Board and student unions.
