People’s reps in confusion due to delay in fixing province capital

KATHMANDU: People’s representatives are in confusion due to the delay in determining the state capital of Province 3.

State assembly members and people’s representatives say that they are in a dilemma with regard to setting priority to local development and infrastructure construction projects and allocating budget as the location for state capital is yet to be identified and declared.

Hetauda is currently serving as the temporary capital of the province. Kavre, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan had been proposed as probable places for the state capital in view of accessibility and climate.

Province Chief Minister Dormani Poudel reiterated that the state capital would not be changed for the time-being as the province government has already announced policy and programme as well as the budget for the current fiscal year.

State Assembly member Basanta Manandhar stressed on the need to fix the state capital after carrying out scientific study of the required infrastructures. He said, local development has been affected due to delay in fixing the state capital and naming the province.

Another State Assembly member Dipendra Shrestha opined that it would be easier in terms of administrative works as well as setting priority for infrastructure development if the place for the state capital was determined at the earliest.
