Petrol bomb thrown at THT journalist's house in Birgunj
KATHMANDU: An unidentified group hurled a petrol bomb at the residence of photojournalist Ram Sarraf, who is affiliated with The Himalayan Times, in Birgunj of Parsa district on Sunday late evening.
According to Sarraf, unknown persons threw a petrol bomb at his house premises and ran away at around 9:10 pm. "There was an explosion but it did not cause damage," he said.
Motive behind the attack was not known.
Condemning the incident, Birgunj chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists urged the local administration to ensure security to local journalists.
FNJ's Birgunj chapter Vice President Dhruba Shah criticised the local administration for failing to maintaining law and order situation in the city.
"We will be meeting district security chiefs tomorrow to raise our concerns," he said.
According to him, police had not reached the incident site till late night.
A team of police has been mobilised to search for the attackers, Assistant Chief District Officer Anuj Bhandari claimed.
In a statement, the FNJ's THT chapter also condemned the cowardly attack against Sarraf.
"We strongly urge the district administration to nab the culprits at the earliest and provide security to the working journalists," chapter president Jayaram Gautam said.
