‘Pitiful stance’

KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress has termed ‘objectionable’ and ‘pitiful’ the comments made by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepal Communist Party Co-chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal earlier on Monday. Issuing a statement, NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma said Oli’s remark that the NC was raising a non-issue to revive its shrinking political influence was unbecoming of the post of the prime minister.

“In democracy, even if one person raises his/her voice for justice, the state has to address it,” he said. “On top of that, Dr Govinda KC is not alone, he has the support of the general public.”

The NC added that the crisis was not due to Dr KC or the NC, but due to the government’s move to reverse provisions in the Medical Education Ordinance issued by the previous NC-led government based on the Mathema commission report.

Stating that it was necessary for the ruling and opposition parties to come together to address Dr KC’s demand and save his life, Sharma slammed Dahal’s statement that the NC was trying to kill Dr KC.

“The NC urges the prime minister and the ruling parties to rise above loose and arrogant comments and find a solution at the earliest,” read the statement.
