PM, Chinese envoy meet

Kathmandu, April 21:

Chinese ambassador to Nepal Zhang Xianglin today met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala

and discussed the political scenario after the April 10 election.

“The Chinese ambassador inquired about the new government and its composition. He also inquired about the issue of integration of the Maoist army,” PM’s foreign policy advisor Aditya Baral said following the meeting held at PM’s official residence in Baluwatar.

Asked if the Chinese envoy voiced concern about the possible impediment to the scheduled programme to take the Olympic torch to Mt Everest, Baral said the issue was not discussed during today’s meeting.

“It was basically a courtesy call by the diplomat after the election, and the Chinese ambassador, like most other diplomats, lauded the Prime Minister for holding the constituent assembly election successfully,” he added. Outgoing German ambassador to Nepal Franz Erwin Ring also called on the PM.
