PM, Dahal discuss agendas for HLPCC meet

Kathmandu, January 30

Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today discussed with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli issues to be taken up during the meeting of High-Level Political Coordination Committee tomorrow.

According to a member of Dahal’s secretariat, the Unified CPN-Maoist chairman held informal talks with PM Oli regarding the government’s performance and issues raised by agitating the Madhesi parties. He further said issues, including formation of the political committee to address the demands of the agitating Madhesi parties, were discussed at the meeting.

Dahal has been claiming at various public functions that the agitating Madhesi leaders were happy with the major parties for endorsing the constitution amendment bill despite their compulsion to oppose the move.

However, the United Democratic Madhesi Front has been protesting the major parties’ move claiming that the amendment made without their consent would not resolve the Tarai unrest.

Dahal also said that the HLPCC would hold a series of talks with the agitating Madhesi parties on formation of the political committee. However, many leaders, including deputy prime ministers Chitra Bahadur KC of Janamorcha Nepal and CP Mainali of CPN-ML, and minister Eknath Dhakal of Nepal Pariwar Dal were unaware of the agendas to be discussed during tomorrow’s meeting of the HLPCC.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s Joint Spokesperson Kiran Giri said his party Chairman Lokendra Bahadur Chand would attend the HLPCC’s meeting and would discuss the Madhes agitation, government’s activities and Prime Minister Oli’s upcoming India visit, among others.

Recently, the Standing Committee meeting of the United CPN-Maoist had decided to entrust Dahal and Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha with holding serious discussions with PM Oli regarding the government’s poor performance and ways to improve it.
