KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 11

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has directed Nepal Electricity Authority not to stop electricity supply to industries until the dispute over tariff related to dedicated feeder and trunk line is resolved.

PM Dahal said study was being carried out to resolve the dispute over tariff. He telephoned Managing Director of NEA Kulman Ghising and issued this directive following his meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry led by its president Chandra Prasad Dhakal at the prime minister's official residence in Baluwatar today.

On the occasion, PM Dahal assured that he would take initiative to sort out the dispute at the soonest by keeping the FNCCI and NEA at one place. On September 3, the NEA had issued a notice requiring industries to pay their outstanding electricity tariff of the dedicated feeder and trunk line within 15 days. It had cautioned the industries that electricity supply would be stopped if they failed to clear the due tariff amount within the deadline.

The FNCCI has urged the government that special initiatives were needed to protect the industries in the present time of economic crisis when they are operating on less than 40 per cent of their capacity. "We need support and cooperation at present. Our demand is that more problems should not be created," said FNCCI president Dhakal.
