PM or prez should be Madhesi: MJF

Kathmandu, June 7:

Chairman of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Upendra Yadav said today that a Madhesi candidate should be picked president or Prime Minister.

Madhes will feel discriminated against otherwise, he warned.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said his party would not support Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala’s bid to become the first president of the nation.

Asked if he himself wanted to be the president, Yadav said, “We are not in the power race, but we will not support Prime Minister Koirala.”

Stating that the new president should be chosen on the basis of consensus, Yadav said, “Like in India, a non-political figure can be made president in Nepal.”

The MJF chief said veteran republican leader Ram Raja Prasad Singh is one of the qualified presidential candidates.

“It would be wrong to say that Girija Prasad Koirala is the only statesman and that he has managed affairs of the state all by himself,” Yadav said.

All stakeholders, and not only the three major parties, should strive to solve problems facing the country, he said.
